Two fatal wrong-way accidents occurred on Watterson Expressway
Two wrong way drivers on the Watterson Expressway in Louisville caused two fatal car accidents within the same morning, according to WAVE 3 News on June 21.
The first vehicular accident happened at around 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-264 near the exit for Breckenridge Lane, Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said. A man operating a Toyota Echo was traveling the wrong way down Interstate 264 when he hit a Jeep head-on. Although the Jeep occupants were not seriously injured, the driver of the Toyota Echo was killed in the accident, according to police reports.
Meanwhile, a report from Louisville MetroSafe showed that at around 6:45 a.m. about three exits down from the first accident, another fatal wrong-way wreck occurred. A woman in a black Jeep saw the traffic caused by the first accident and did a U-turn on the highway. Now driving the wrong way down the eastbound lanes of I-264, she hit a white Jeep near the Newburg exit. The collision resulted in the immediate death of the white Jeep driver.
